A micro lot direct trade offering from our partner FAF Coffees that have been working with producers of the region of Caparaó for ten years.

Once FAF started work in the Caparao region they found a region that was incredibly beautiful with many small family farms but most small producers were selling almost their entire production to the local cooperatives and dry mills at commodity prices. Here FAF has been implementing the Total Quality approach and Tres Barras are one of valley communities replicating vision of sustainable coffee farming in the region. The Tres Barras group are closer to the town of Alto Caparaó and are led by Fernando Heringer. Known as the ‘Rockstar Farmer’ because he loves to play guitar and has the long blond rockstar hair.  With help from FAFCoffees, the Tres Barras have managed to learn to harvest the coffee at the right time, improve their drying and processing methods to deliver a coffee that is much cleaner and sweeter.  He has shared these new concepts with his neighbors and together they have managed to add value to their coffees and the coffees of the region.

The result is worth the extra work though as the cup profile is a fruity floral with more explosive fruit and juiciness in the cup.

Tres Barras producers are very aware of the fact that they have one of Brazil’s most treasured natural resources on their doorstop.  The preservation of the waterways, springs, forests and wildlife of the region is a natural part of daily life for them. The work with FAF Coffees encourages them to keep those practices and learn how to join sustainable agricultural practices with high-end coffees. Caparaó are now on a FAF Coffees One-Hundred-Year Project to bring back the abundance of clean water, forests and organically grown produce for those who inhabit today and for the following generations to come.
