Grown in Carmo de Minas at Fazenda Santuario Sul, a 120-acre farm of which 80 acres are planted to coffee, this SL 28 joins a new lineup of Brazilian coffees with its exceptional cup profile. The quality of this SL28 is largely influenced by its high elevation at 1300 meters.

The coffees that grow here are reflections of the obstinacy of Luiz Paulo and his partners. Today, in addition to the traditional Brazilian varieties (like SL28), the farm has more than 30 exotic varieties of coffee, differentiated cultivation practices, and innovative processes.

Fazenda Santuário Sul is a project born from the objective of being at the vanguard of new market trends. It is not simple to begin a plan thinking of bringing coffees from different regions of the world to create a new profile of Brazilian coffee.

This particular lot is entirely composed of SL28 – a variety is typically grown in Africa with a strong genetic resistance to drought. SL28 was originally selected by Scott Agricultural Laboratories back in the mid to late 1930s from a large selection of coffee shrubs taken from surrounding areas of Tanzania. Its inherent drought resistance, high yield, and prized quality make it one of the most well-known and regarded varieties in the world. Interestingly SL28 has been traced back to the Bourbon genetic group – a variety found a lot in Brazil.

With great care, the varieties planted are closely monitored to provide the best results from the climatic conditions of the region. In addition, Luiz Paulo himself insists on cupping the first samples of each of these coffees.

As a honey process, we were quite amazed how clean this cup was with juicy currant notes on a sweet body.
